Big welcome to a new blogger bride…
Jun 24th, 2007 by Sharon
On this rather miserable rainy day in Worthing, I am delighted to introduce to you our new blogger bride from sunny San Francisco! Take a look at Sharon’s profile here.
Vegan bride, Sharon, will be sharing the thrills and frustrations of planning a low impact but fun packed ‘big’ day. Over to Sharon…
You’d think that in San Francisco - one of the most progressive cities in America - that planning an ethical wedding would be a piece of cake. Perhaps it’s easier here than some places, but as I’m sure we’ve all learned, veering away from the “traditional” wedding industry brings unique challenges wherever you are.
I’m really interested in sharing resources, so I’ll post about one from my little corner of the world.
My fiance has been vegan for eleven years (I’m going on 2 as a vegan, 6 as a vegetarian) so food was a top priority for us. In addition we wanted food grown locally and sustainably, so chose Back to Earth. Admittedly, they’re not cheap - it’s nearly half our entire budget. But we knew this going into it and planned accordingly.
We figure it’s not often we get a chance to eat whatever we want at a wedding. At social functions vegans are often relegated to a plate of veggies and hummus. So we wanted to show our family and friends just how great our food can be. We’ve gotten some jeers, and I’m sure inevitably there will be an uncle trying to bribe the caterers into making him a hamburger. But I think it will all be worth it.
I’ll be posting more about some of the green vendors we’re using, my DIY projects, and maybe a rant or two. But I want to hear from other ethical brides and grooms and the great resources you’ve found! Feel free to drop me a line (especially if you’re in the Northern CA area).
Back soon…
Sharon
