A couple in New York highlighted PETA’s (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) campaign to stop the use of horse-drawn carriages in Central Park by taking an antique Ford to their wedding on a busy corner of the Park – with a hefty sign pinned to the back declaring:

‘Just hitched – and not to a carriage! PETA‘

This is a tricky one as green brides and grooms looking to cut carbon often turn to our four-legged friends for an eco-friendly way of getting to the church on time.

PETA wants vintage-style, electric cars to replace the horses.

It wasn’t entirely clear from the article but it seems PETA’s campaign may be focused on the particular conditions for horses in Central Park rather than horse-drawn carriages in general.  Either way, it’s still another issue to throw into the ethical wedding debate.
