China ethical wedding?
Nov 21st, 2008 by Katie
I came across this photo story online about a Chinese couple who married on 9 November and it intrigues me…
The headline is ‘Yao ethical wedding in Rongshui County, southwest China’s Guangxi‘ but the article itself doesn’t explain in any way why the wedding was ethical – or not that I can see.
If you see something I don’t, or happen to know more about this wedding, do get in touch as I’d love to hear more about a Chinese ethical wedding.
In the meantime, what is interesting is the tradition of the Yao ethnic group in Tonglian Township (to which this couple belong) only to celebrate their wedding after having first proved their marriage is stable. In this case, that translates as 9 years of marriage and an 8-year-old daughter!
I suppose this is the equivalent of living together before you decide you’re ready or want to get married…
Just a little bit of triva for a Friday afternoon! Have a lovely weekend…

My guess is they meant ethnic, since the Yao is a minority in China. Actually per this blog http://liuzhou.blog-city.com/yao_wedding.htm the couple is Miao.

I blogged about the same story, but did not notice the use of the word ethic at the time.
