Dry clean with a clean conscience?
Aug 24th, 2007 by Katie
Once the big day is over, the green bride is often faced with an eco-dilemma, to dry clean or not to dry clean?
The solvents used in dry cleaning sadly aren’t so great for the environment - but when you’re dealing with a posh frock, you often don’t have a lot of choice…until now!
Trend spotting site, Springwise, has found Fred Butler, who ‘…uses a new technology that replaces solvents like perchloroethylene with carbon dioxide. Their method works by placing clothes or other textiles in a cleansing machine, removing the air and letting CO2 fill the vacuum.”
“High pressure combined with bio-degradable cleansers ensures dirt particles are removed from fabric. The carbon dioxide used is a by-product of industrial processes and once a cycle has been completed, 98% of the carbon dioxide is filtered and reused.’
Find out more at Springwise and get your dress dry cleaned with a clean conscience!
This will be my last post for a week or two as we’re off on our holidays taking the train south in search of Spanish sun - see you in September!
Take care,
Katie

Good call. I had no idea how bad dry cleaning was until a few months ago. There are a few places where I live in San Francisco that offer the service. The best one I know of is called “Pressed”). If you google “green dry cleaning” you can find results all over the place.
