Decorating your wedding venue in ethically-sourced style has never been easier.
We believe that even the most ferocious bridezilla would not have to compromise her vision for the venue with the fair trade goodies around today. We’ve certainly come a long way since the (worthy but not so tasty) Fairtrade coffee days of 1994 when the Fairtrade mark launched in the UK.
Feast your eyes on these little beauties.
Lighting, lanterns & tealights
Set the mood with these romantic fairy lights, lanterns, candles and candle holders.
Terracotta Lanterns from Traidcraft, 2 for £16
Or for a bolder, brighter theme, Daisy Daisy has these handmade, paper lantern, LED fairy lights.
Then make an impact with this Lace Doily Paper Star Lantern, £19.50 from Pipii.co.uk.
Who can resist the charms of the tea light with its delicate glow that puts every face into soft focus?
Leave these Love birds from Traidcraft on each table at the evening reception (the first guests to couple up could claim them!).
And the tea lights to grace these beautiful holders?
(Left to right) Frangipani Tea Light Candles from ShamanicLifestyle.com (£6.99); Butterfly candles from Traidcraft (£7); Rose candle set from Traidcraft (£5 – reduced)
Perhaps pure and simple beeswax candles are more your style. These candles from Ganesha are handmade in the Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan.
While these coconut oil aromatherapy candles, also from Ganesha, would create a wonderful fragrance throughout your venue.
Vases, centrepieces & tableware
Arrange your Fairtrade flowers (more on these later in the Fortnight) in a gorgeous fair trade vase. Here’s a selection.
Fair Trade Florence Vase by Nkuku, £7 from Fashion-Conscience.
Fair Trade Large Etched Vase by Indica, £17 from Runnative
Hyacinth bulb vases, £10 from Fairwind
Set of 5 Multi Bottles in Hessian Band, £12.48 (half price) from Natural Collection
You can even get fair trade place name holders. 8 Glass Bell Place Name Holders are just £12.95 from pipii.co.uk.
Or these Zuri Place Name Holders by Nkuku are £2.50 each from By Nature.
And of course you’ll have your fabulous fair trade favours to adorn your table too.
Your caterers or venue will probably provide items such as tablecloths, napkins and crockery but if not, how about…
…this Aqua Stripe Tablecloth & Napkins (£30) from Traidcraft.
Or, for a picnic-style wedding, these disposable plates made from sal and siali leaves, from the forests of Orissa, east India, from £5.99 for 20 from Ganesha.
You can’t go wrong with a bit of bunting.
Love, love, love this Mexican Papel Picado Tissue Paper Bunting ‘Amour’, £16 from Pipii.co.uk
Multi-coloured bunting made by Stree Shakti a quilting cooperative in the Himalayas using Monsoon off cuts, £15 from Monsoon.
Bunting made from upcycled cotton saris with kantha stitching, £14 from Global Seesaw.
And if you’re feeling a bit crafty, you could get some fair trade fabric to make your own – such as the range available from Bishopston Trading Company.
Pretty little things
And finally, everything else. So many pretty little things that will add that special, personal touch to your wedding. Enjoy!
You could have these Fair Trade Kiko Glass Frames (£10 from Fashion-Conscience) with photos of you and your partner, friends and family dotted around the venue.
6 Fairtrade Glass Heart Baubles, £12.95 from Pipii.co.uk.
Soapstone hearts – both £2.50 from Daisy Daisy.
For a beach-themed wedding these handmade driftwood mobiles, £4.99 from Siiren, would be perfect.
If you’re a fan of balloons, make sure they’re fair trade. How about these twenty-five fairly traded balloons made from FSC rubber? £3.23 from Fairtrade Warehouse.
And to finish, this stunning red metal hanging heart, just £3 from Fairwind.
Phew! We hope you’ve enjoyed that whistle stop tour of fair trade venue decorations. If you want more, check out our Fair trade weddings Pinterest board – we’ll keep adding to it throughout Fairtrade Fortnight – and beyond.
