We often talk about the big stuff (in wedding terms!) on Ethical Weddings – the dress, the venue , the food
, the ring… But what about those delicious details – can you go green with those too? After all, you don’t want the devil in your details!
This week’s featured supplier, FairDeal Trading jackson movie , might just be able to help you out with their fabulous fair trade FSC certified balloons. They can personalise them with the design or words of your choice and are a brilliant way to brighten up your wedding venue.
But FairDeal Trading is about more than just balloons….
From sushi to recycling
The FairDeal Trading Partnership was set up in 2004 by James Lloyd and Dr Martin Kunz.
James has been busy in all sorts of areas before co-founding FairDeal Trading. He’s worked as a Caribbean chef, managed a Sushi business and acted as an election monitor in Kosovo.
Back in 1998, he helped organise and took part in an aid convoy bringing medical supplies to female refugees in Bosnia.
In the summer of 2000 he graduated from The University of Sussex and helped establish a plastic recycling project in Goa, India.
James now distributes FairDeal products from their base in Brighton. He visits their Fair Trade projects in Pakistan regularly and is keen to develop a whole new range of Fair Trade fashion for the UK and Europe.
Fair trade to balls
Martin meanwhile has been working full time in Fair Trade since 1992, and in 1997/98 developed the first Fair Trade criteria for sports balls, as well as the first supply chain (both ongoing).
Before that he was the first chairman of the board of the directors of the biggest Alternative Trade Organization worldwide (gepa in Germany), and co-founder and first general secretary of TransFair International (TFI) and later the Fair Trade Labelling Organization (FLO).
As early as the 1980s, he had completed a PhD that provided a pioneering evaluation of world shops in Germany. Martin has also been co-chairman since its inception of OekoVision jackson’s this is it , the strictest ethical investment fund trading on the Continent.
As the FairDeal Trading Partnership, James deals with the UK and Irish markets and logistics while Martin is in charge of promotion in Germany and surrounding countries as well as product development in South Asia. His most recent work involved sourcing and importing FSC certified rubber for their footwear and sports balls.
Distribution helps disadvantaged
And FairDeal manages to spread the love even further as their distribution in the UK is managed by Pack-IT, an award winning Social Enterprise providing work opportunities for people with learning disabilities.
