Get ethically hitched from the bottom up!
Jul 21st, 2009 by Katie
I’ve always clung to the saying, ‘It’s what’s inside that counts’. As a somewhat gawky – and geeky – teenager it gave me hope. As an adult working in the multi-million dollar wedding industry, it still gives me hope that underneath the tiaras, tulle and tantrums there lurks true love, and that’s what counts.
But how about what’s above the love and below the gown; can that count? I think it can.
Confused?
I’m talking ethical underwear.
Yep, lingerie that loves you but loves the world too. If you’ve got the gorgeous green gown and the eco chic shoes, wouldn’t it be nice to know that even your knickers are doing their bit?
Well, for all you ethical brides out there, here are my top picks for some seriously stylish but sustainable smalls…
Enamore
Enamore’s Annabel range is perfect for the eco chic bride. Made from organic silk with a pink satin bow, it is very cute indeed!

You can even find a complementary garter concocted from vintage fabric and lace!
GreenKnickers
GreenKnickers have the ‘old’, ‘new’, ‘borrowed’, ‘blue’ thing sorted in this perky pair.

As they say, “With an OLD bow made from reclaimed rags, a NEW pair of organic silky hemp briefs, a jewellery clasp to attach something BORROWED and a BLUE bouquet of roses, this lucky lingerie is all you need on your big day.”
Eco-boudoir
This bamboo cami + short set from Eco-boudoir will not only feel silky soft but give a smooth line under a sleek and simple wedding gown.

Luva Huva
Joanna Ketterer uses end of line fabrics, remnants and cut-offs that would otherwise go to waste to make this delicately delightful range of lingerie.

Joanna says: “All the materials are sourced locally and every garment is handmade in the UK by myself, meaning my knickers have a small carbon footprint.”
Ciel
Sustainable style leader, Ciel, has come up with this super snug range of organic cotton undies.

So good you won’t want to take them off!
American Apparel
American Apparel, renowned for paying a fair wage and for its strong stance against sweatshops, offers striking, sassy but reasonably-priced ‘Intimates’.

Depending on the fabric of your dress, you could opt for pure white or something a bit more funky in red, purple or even metallic grey!
Pants to poverty
Go organic and Fairtrade with these ‘Pants to Poverty’ briefs.
£1 profit from the sale of the pants is reinvested in campaigning for Trade Justice.
And guess what? You can get your groom a pair as your ‘something blue’
.

People Tree
For comfort on your wedding day (I know, I’ve got a pair!), choose these organic Fairtrade cotton pants from People Tree.

Stella McCartney
If you want to treat yourself to a designer label on your big day, slip into Stella McCartney’s range of organic underwear. This is the ‘Daisy Dreaming’ bra – sweet!
An Officer and a Gentleman full movie
If I’ve missed your eco undergarment of choice, add it in the comments.
Keep comfy!
