Green wedding top tips
Apr 1st, 2009 by Katie
The lovely Jen Napier (pictured right on her wedding day) of wedding planning site, OneWed got in touch to share her top green wedding tips with us.
We thought it would be rather selfish to keep them all to ourselves so here they are in all their green glory…
Going Green Wedding Tips: download Never Back Down
1. Wedding & Bridesmaid Dresses: You can go green with a gorgeous wedding dress a number of ways:
* rent your dress
* purchase a previously-owned or vintage dress
* buy a dress using sustainable fabrics
* borrow from a loved one!
Do your friends a favor and pick a bridesmaid dress they can use again or even have them select from their own closets.
2. Wedding Stationery: Be good to the environment by:
* sending digital save-the-date & wedding invitations
* communicating with your wedding party and wedding guests with a free wedding website
* purchasing recycled paper invitations and programmes
3. Venue & Food:
Select both a wedding venue and caterer who are eco-friendly: Select vendors who…
* recycle
* use LED lighting
* source food from local markets to cut down on carbon emissions
* buy and serve food that is organic, pesticide-free, cage-free.
And have your ceremony and reception at the same location.
4. Centerpieces & Décor: Consider using potted plants that can be planted after the wedding. If you do use flowers, go with local, seasonal flowers and use them more than once for your wedding activities and offer to guests as a take-home gift.
5. Rent, Rent, Rent: Rent as much as you can…linens, silverware, dinnerware, aisle runners, centerpiece containers.
Thanks for those top tips, Jen. If you have your own tips, send them in and we’ll post them in our ethical wedding top tips section
