Show us how it’s done

Although we get lots of emails from reporters on the other side of the Atlantic wanting to know what this whole ethical and green wedding thing is that the UK is going on about, they would be advised to cast their eyes over what is happening on their own shores once in a while, as both Toronto and Los Angeles have beaten us to it on the green wedding show front!
While the UK’s National Wedding Show struggles to muster up more than a handful of ethical wedding suppliers (our National Wedding Show debrief to follow soon - we haven’t forgotten - just need to scan in the pics of us on the stand for you!), Jaye Marsh, who celebrated her own green wedding last October, was busy organising Canada’s first Eco Wedding and Lifestyle Show in Toronto.
Despite appalling weather the night before, Jaye had a good turnout of committed green couples for her show on 1 March and nearly all the exhibitors are already signed up for next year’s show so if you’re a Canadian green wedding supplier you’d better get in there quick before all the stands have been snapped up!
As Jaye says: “Busy couples are eager for the convenience of a one-stop shop for their special event, and to find products and services that cater to their lifestyle. We aim to make this process less challenging for you, our guests, whether you want to go the whole ‘green’ way or just adopt a few ethical ideas into your day.
The rest of a couple’s life involves purchasing homes, vehicles, furnishings, financial products and travel. Our vendors will help you make informed and sustainable decisions in all of these areas. ”
Meanwhile, in the USA, Los Angeles’ premiere bridal event, ‘A Soolip Wedding’ also incorporates ‘A Green Wedding’ for the second year running.
Where last year, A Soolip Wedding brought together an intimate collection of green-minded exhibitors, this year, they are challenging all exhibitors to adopt three environmentally-minded practices within their businesses which will be publicly celebrated at the event.
According to organiser, Wanda Wen: “It is time that the bridal and event industry, characterized by its excesses, takes steps to give back to our earth”
The event takes place on Sunday 30 March. For more details see: www.ethicalweddings.com/events
If you’re heading to A Soolip Wedding on the 30th or made it to the Eco Wedding & Lifestyle Show in Toronto on the 1st, do get in touch, we’d love to hear all about it.
And before our UK brides start grumbling too loudly about the lack of green wedding shows in the UK, all we can say is fret not, we might have something up our capped sleeves before too long…!
If you have an ethical and green wedding related event you would like to promote on Ethical Weddings, just drop us an email and we’ll add it to the Events section.
Take care,
Katie
