Sussex ethics girls stride down the catwalk in fashion made fair

Death Wish 3 move Find out what my friends and I are getting up to in the world of ethical fashion!
While Primark reels from Panorama’s high profile attack, 3 ethics girls from Sussex set out to show the fairer face of fashion at the Horsham EcoFair this month.
At 2pm on Sunday 20 July, three ethical businesswomen from Sussex will be striding down the Horsham EcoFair catwalk to prove that fair doesn’t have to be frumpy.
Deborah (right), 37, from EcoChic (Fair Trade) is passionate about fair trade but equally passionate about quality and style:
“Fair Trade and ethical fashion is changing enormously, with contemporary, eco-conscious clothes and accessories that create beautiful change in our world, offer a living wage for producers and hope for their families. Striding down the EcoFair Fashion Show catwalk you’ll see People Tree, Adila, EcoChic, LA & Silver Chilli Jewellery, and Traidcraft. Don’t miss it!“
For Lou (centre), 30, otherwise known as The Ethical Stylist, this is the perfect commission:
“I adore fashion, but am concerned about the consequences of fast fashion. I’m encouraged by the current consumer desire to know more about where our clothes come from and hope retailers start to take action. I can’t wait to see clothes from local Brighton boutique Lulie B who sell fab ethical lines such as Ciel and Enamore. It should be a fantastic showcase of the latest trends for the eco-conscious fashionista…”
Meanwhile, Katie (left), 30, of online ethical wedding planner, Ethical Weddings, is bringing together ethical bridalwear for a fabulous finale with organic fabrics, recycled creations and vintage style from eco designers such as Motasem and Wholly Jo’s:
“I’ve never been on a catwalk before but I can’t wait to show off these gorgeous ethical gowns so brides-to-be can see green can be glam. It’ll be just like walking down the aisle again!”
The theme of the fashion show is summer chic and the three coordinators will be joined on the catwalk by a bevy of Sussex beauties of all shapes and sizes!
All the fun of the EcoFair
The Escapist release The EcoFair in Horsham is the second annual Sussex EcoFair organised by Paula Pollard and Melanie Laurie of environmentally friendly architects, Ecotecture with support from Horsham District Council to inspire and educate on the ethos of sustainability.
As well as the fashion show, there will be green living seminars and workshops, and countless stalls selling everything from organic strawberries to water-saving devices for your loo!
The show runs from 10.30am – 5pm on Sunday 20 July at Horsham Park, Horsham, West Sussex. The fashion show takes place at 2pm. For more details see: www.ecofair.org.uk

It’s great to read an article promoting ecological fashion in Sussex, I myself am a T-Shirt designer and blogger from St. Leonards on Sea and I can’t for the life of me find a local organic t-shirt printer. I’ve even started my own t-shirt printing directory to encourage more designers to use local printers to reduce their carbon footprint. I’ve made a point of offering free premium listings for organic/fair trade t-shirt printers, but have hardly had any takers so far. I suppose that this consumer-led revolution is not particularly favourable with a lot of big business in the fashion industry. However I might have more luck at the Eco Fair- see you there!!
