Welcome to Sam, our new ethical bride
Jan 26th, 2009 by Katie
After introducing you to our blogging couple, Helen and Mike earlier this month, we’re chuffed to have another ethical bride on board to share her experiences in the run up to the big day. Sam gets married in May this year in Devon. Here are her thoughts so far – and her top tips!
Your name: Sam King
Wedding date: 30 May 2009
Venue and location: Middle Coombe Farm, Devon, UK
Budget: £5-6000
What inspired you to have an ethical wedding?
We try to live our lives as “ethically” as possible.
We are a vegetarian/vegan household. We recycle/freecycle as much as possible. We generally find we don’t have the income to be overly frivolous consumers, and anyway, we’re a bit too cynical to succumb to the marketing! I wanted to have a wedding that would reflect us as people.
(Gosh that makes us sound very boring…!)
What has been the most difficult bit so far?
Going to the Wedding Show – why on earth did I think there would be anything for me there??!!
What has been the most fun bit?
Proposing! Also the most scary bit so far.
Oh, although getting the samples from our caterer was great too.
What are your 5 top tips for brides and grooms planning an ethical wedding?
1. Remember it’s YOUR wedding!
2. Work out what’s really essential to you – it can be done on a small budget.
3. Think “out of the box” – this is your chance to get creative, and gives you a good excuse to get rid of lots of the crap.
4. Think DIY
5. Research. Hooray for the internet. And other people’s weddings!
