West Country green weddings
Mar 10th, 2008 by Katie
While it may be suffering from the weather a little at the moment (!), the West Country is a wonderful part of England and a popular spot for tying the knot. Now, thanks to South West Tourism, ethical brides and green grooms have even more reason to head west with this beautiful publication, South West Tourism - Guilt Free Indulgence, which brings together information on Green Tourism Businesses who are finding ways to provide a more sustainable service for their visitors.
South West Tourism’s own Sustainable Tourism Manager, who helped to put this guide together, celebrated his own green wedding last year and if you skip to page 21 you can see suggestions for West Country hotels and venues on how they can cater for the growing demand for ethical weddings.
Gants Mill green weddings
At the same time, we are very pleased to welcome a West Country wedding venue to our Ethical Weddings Supplier Directory - the gorgeous Gants Mill in Somerset.
Generating their own hydro-electricity from their historic watermill, the venue is licensed for you to hold your civil ceremony in their Conservatory or Gazebo before relaxing for your reception in a traditional marquee in the grounds.
When it comes to the wedding breakfast, they say:
“Much of what we eat is measured in food yards rather than miles. The garden soil is very productive from the addition of muck from the farmyard a few hundred yards away, and we grow much of our own fruit and vegetables throughout the year.
B&B guests have our own strawberries, raspberries and tomatoes in season. Bacon and sausages are from a local rare breed farm, and the eggs and apple juice are from local suppliers.”
And the best bit? The cakes for summer visitors are baked by local WI ladies - if that isn’t a guarantee of deliciousness I don’t know what is!
Gants Mill still have some Saturdays available this year so if you like the sound of it, get in touch quick smart before they’re all snapped up!
